1. Give your Betta Enough Space to be Happy
In the store, they are placed in a small container to take up less space but it doesn’t mean that you also have to put them in a small cup. Provide them a home where they can enjoy swimming around and have room to breath.
2. Water Quality & Water Changes
Although betta fish is pretty much a tough camper when it comes to water but you need to keep on the watch on Chlorine.
3. Be Aware on Aggression Level
By nature they have tendency to fight each other. Being known as the “Japanese Fighting Fish”. Males are usually aggressive and will fight to death that’s why they cannot be roommates.
4. Overfeeding is a Silent Killer
Overfeeding your betta cause some bloating and other issues. You just have to feed them once a day at the same time on a regular schedule if possible. There stomach is the size of their eyeball and it takes them 2 full week to starve to death.
5. They eat meat too
This type of fish are carnivore. Getting them good food like dried shrimp or bloodworm will make them happy & healthy.
6. Water temperature
In the tank, Water temperature should be between 75-82 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s advisable to buy a tank heater which will only cost you under $10.
7. Keep your tank water clean
When changing tank water, keep only 40-50% of the old tank water that they are accustom to.
8. Water Filtration is a must
Giving your betta fish a poor living environment will make them sick and prone to any diseases. So make sure they have clean tank and in good temperature.
9. A happy fish is a healthy fish
Since betta are a sort of territorial fish. From time to time, you may want to put a mirror on your tank and you can see that male fish get all boasted. This is good for them to change things up but don’t leave the mirror for a long time for their health’s safety.
10. Betta digestion
Betta fish have some weird digestion issues most of them are due to over feeding and poor nutrition. One way to solve this problem is get a household “pea”. Choose those that are precooked, remove the skin and cut it up into tiny pieces that they can eat. It does wonders on their digestion & nutrition as well.
